Dusk was Callisto's favorite time of the day, when the realm was at last settling down for its nightly slumber and the sun slowly sank away below the western horizon, burning the sky with reds and oranges in protest against the inevitable night. It was peaceful and relatively quiet save for the scurrying of field mice and the occasional buzz of an insect, the scarcity of wolves on the outskirts of the Red Paw territory the sole reason the young scout was drawn out there. It was these early hours of the day when Callisto did most of her thinking, her mind at ease from a good night's sleep and her sights affixed upon the sunset far across the sea. She had taken up residence in the forests of Deep Lake after disappearing so long ago, which was only a short trek across a small expanse of field to the western shore. There, upon a grassy dune situated where the beach met the sprawling stretch of field, sat Callisto bathed in the amber glow of the sunset. Lost in thought, her bi-hued gaze stared off at nothing across the tops of the churning navy waves, narrowed ever so in slight which made her captivating features contort into a slight frown.

Was trusting Quella a mistake? She knew the murderous fae held her own secret agenda when it came to Callisto's training, but the young scout did as well and she really only wanted to use Quella to learn how to fight better. She also knew the Lead Scout did not care at all about her or what she really thought, but she didn't really care much for Quella either. Still, however, she was beginning to doubt this decision and wonder what she was really going to gain from such an alliance. Or if there was anything to gain at all. Releasing a sigh, she directed the puff of air upwards to move the long spill of hair from her eyes, only to have it fall back into place rebelliously over her left eye of teal-green hue.

Regis sniffed the ground tiredly. He had been trying to follow this wolf’s scent for a good time now. Trying, because his mother always seemed to find him and take him away from the trail. Training, training, training. You lack this, you lack that, you’ll never be a soldier if you keep doing—blah blah blah. That’s all he ever heard from her! Batu tested his nerves to the point he thought he might just snap at her. He had been lucky this time though. Batu had let him have a break. The Grey Paws must have killed Giderah and Rory because he had never in his lifetime thought he would hear his mother allow him free time. It was so unlike her, but Regis didn’t question her. He wanted his few moments of freedom.

The wolf he had been following had something odd about her that caught the high-held brute’s attention. Maybe it was because he never remembered ever seeing her despite her saying she was a Red Paw. Or maybe it was because the Scout Lead, Quella, had taken her in as her apprentice. Not just any wolf caught such a superior’s eye. ‘Or maybe it’s because of the Grey Paws,’ he thought. He had caught her gazing over to that wretched territory when he had first met her. As to why she had done so, he had no idea for she had never answered him.

The scent trail led him far to the western side of Red Paw territory. He had never known many wolves that traveled this far out, then again, he didn’t know any wolf personally anyways. His serious nature made it hard for him to make any new friends. Befriending Rebel when they were younger was about the only thing that kept him social with anybody. Regis’ sky-blue orbs finally caught sight of the mysterious she-wolf sitting by her lonesome. She appeared to be watching the sunset.

The brute’s ears flickered when he heard her sigh. Regis stepped forward quietly despite already expecting for her to notice his presence behind her. “What are you doing out here, Callisto?” he inquired before looking around, “I don’t see Scout Lead Quella anywhere.”

She had dismissed the unsettling thoughts of Quella and drifted languidly into a daydream, one of better times in her youth when the world was one big playground and all was well. Times in which she romped through the Fields of Giderah and swam in the shallows of Elk Lake, times in which she went on grand adventures into strange places and always had her father coming to her rescue. Times that she remembered were without strife, without bloodshed, and without death – or at least none that she was aware of. Times long since gone, dead, and buried. Those times that would never come back and she would never again experience, no, not while those vile Grey Paws still walked the earth. Looking away from the beautiful scene with a snort she cursed silently at nothing, staring down at her black hued forepaws which stood out against the orange tinged grasses of green beneath them. Why did she have so much hate inside of her? Ignoring the fact that a general disliking of the Grey Paws was bred into her, being a Red Paw from birth, she had no real definitive reason to loathe them so deeply.

An ear flicked to the sound of approaching footfall, an invisible brow arisen in slight as her gaze rose back to the sunset but not over her shoulder, nostrils quivering in slight to catch a scent. Regis was fortunate enough to be downwind of Callisto and the ocean breeze blew past her toward him, his scent masked by the salty aroma of the nearby sea. It wasn't like she was going to fight or flee, but it was obvious enough that she wanted to be left alone and had she scented his approach, she would have - out of irritation - rose from her spot and walked away before he even got a word out. Recognition finally hit when his words poured forth and broke the figurative silence in the air, her stubby tail flicking to the side and doing its best to curl about her haunches with its evidently shorter length in comparison to other wolves. When at last his voice died away and she assumed he was finished speaking, she turned her head in slight to speak off to the side, letting the breeze carry her voice to him white her gaze remained hidden beneath white hued eyelids. "Quella may be training me, but she is by no means my keeper. I am free to come and go as I please without her consent.."

Her mood was evident in her flat low tone, which was admittedly a little rude, but he had intruded upon her serene solitude. This was the second time he had caught her in a bad mood it seemed, which really wasn't that hard to do, but considering that they didn't know each other very well she decided file away their first meeting as a random fluke and do better to get to know him this time around. Quickly correcting herself, she opened her eyes and turned her body in slight to better face him, although she did not do a complete about-face as she was not quite ready to turn away from the warming glow of the sunset just yet. "I was just.. that is.. I mean.." She cleared her throat and took a breath, letting it out slowly and gathering her thoughts before speaking again. "This is where I come to think. I don't usually get many, um, visitors.. I guess." It was clear she wasn't much of a social individual and that was probably the most she'd spoken in days, a weak but unforced little smile easing to her entrancing features as her one visible eye of gold met his gaze.

Regis quietly watched as Callisto went from looking down to staring up at the setting sun once more. She appeared to be thinking about something, like she had when she had looked off towards the Grey Paws. ‘It also looks like I’m not wanted here,’ he thought after a moment or two. It wasn’t like he expected much from her though; they were just strangers after all. Not to mention, any other reaction would have probably disturbed him.

He turned to leave when he heard her speak up. The brute turned his cranium to look at the red she-wolf over his shoulder. “Ah,” was his reply. What else was he to say? He himself was not usually social with other wolves. He was to the point. He got what he needed to say out and then left it at that. There was really no actual conversation.

The tri-hued male stood there for a moment, not sure if she was finished with speaking with him. Sky-blue orbs watched as Callisto turned just slightly. He could see her orangeish-gold eye, seeming to be glowing due to the effects of the sky behind her, staring at him. The other was hidden beneath the she-wolf’s hair. Regis’ ears perked up when she started to speak once more, this time with a bit of difficulty it seemed. “You…aren’t used to conversing with others, are you?” he observed hesitantly. He wasn’t exactly sure about how to go about the situation he found himself in.

Sky-blue eyes caught her weak smile before running into her golden eye. His attention stayed there for a moment before looking around once more. It would be kind of awkward to just stare at her. “Ah. I can see why. It looks…peaceful,” he commented before adding, “…Most probably don’t even know that such a place exists.” Regis paused for a minute or so, unsure of how to keep up a conversation. It was unlike him, therefore making it hard. “…You like watching the sunset, yes?” he tried weakly. Regis was finding it hard to break away from his serious and to the point nature. This fact was probably already noticed though, so he tried to make it less obvious.
